Guatemala Adventure


  • Day 1 - Upon arrival in Guatemala City you will be met and transferred to Antigua and the tranquility of an evergreen valley in the country. Following check in, you will have the remainder of the day at leisure to experience the charming oasis of Antigua. Overnight at Hotel Posada Don Rodrigo-Antigua.

           

  • Day 2 - This morning you will make your way to Chichicastenango, or simply “Chichi,” to visit one of the most spectacular markets in the Americas (market days are Thursday and Sunday). When you hit the streets in Chichi, be ready to bargain. For the vendors, the market started yesterday, as they came from villages throughout the region to prepare for today’s market. Evening transfer to Panajachel. Overnight at Posada de Don Rodrigo-Panajachel.

       

  • Day 3 - Today you will explore the various Mayan communities surrounding beautiful Lake Atitlan with your guide. Several traditional farming villages are set along the Lake’s shores, enjoying it’s Xocomil, or “wind that carries away sin.” Points of interest in the area include the quiet village of San Antonio Palopó, and the market of Sololá, one of the major centers for trade of the western highlands. Dressed in traditional garb, street vendors in Sololá come from throughout the area to sell everything from fruits and vegetables to the area’s characteristically brightly colored woven goods. In the evening return to your hotel where you may witness the sunset that inspired the Mayas to consider Atitlan basin “the navel of the earth and sky.” Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Hotel Don Rodrigo-Atitlan.

     

  • Day 4 - Early this morning you will be transferred to Antigua by way of Iximche Archaeological site. Remainder of the day to pursue your own interests. Established by Spanish Conquistadors in 1524, Antigua was Guatemala’s capital city for over two centuries. Antigua enchants visitors with its narrow cobblestone streets, tree-shaded parks, and old colonial architecture. Overnight at the Posada Don Rodrigo-Antigua.

    

  • Day 5 - Today enjoy a walking tour of Antigua, including a visit to the textile village, and Music Museum. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Antigua on your own or simply relax. Overnight at Hotel Posada Don Rodrigo-Antigua.

  • Day 6 - Following a morning at leisure, you will be transferred to the Guatemala City Airport for a flight to Flores. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Hotel Jungle Lodge-Tikal. The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the amenities of the hotel, explore the area on your own, or simply relax. Overnight at Hotel Jungle Lodge. 

         

  • Day 7 - Today enjoy a guided tour of Tikal National Park. You will explore the spectacular ruins of Tikal, some currently under excavation, with your bilingual, local guide. The city of Tikal contained one of the largest urban centers in Mesoamerica during the eighth and ninth centuries. At the center of the city are five impressive pyramids and an array of buildings and palace structures that signify the religious and secular importance of Tikal. Comprising 3,000 separate structures hidden within the rainforest, Tikal is also a vast biosphere reserve rich in wildlife. Look and listen for howler monkeys, spider monkeys, coatamundi, and gray foxes stirring in the brush. Overnight at Hotel Jungle Lodge.
  • Day 8 - Today you will be transferred to the airport in Flores for your flight to Guatemala City. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel and have the remainder of the day to pursue your own interests. Overnight at the Holiday Inn- Guatemala City.
  • Day 9 - Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight out of the country.
