 Birdwatching at Chaa Creek

Chaa Creek's 365 acres are always abuzz with the sounds of a tropical forest concerto. A fly-past of squadrons of brilliantly colored parrots, the distance of a Blue-crowned Mot-Mot and the fragrance of frangipani blossoms welcomes you to a new world steeped in Mayan history, and surrounded by nature's bounty.  But, during the nesting months of April and May, avian activity heats up, as more than 308 species of raucous birds compete for space with the new blooms of multihued flora to begin the fascinating task of building their nests within the reserve.

This lively time of the year offers both the expert and casual bird watcher, an exciting opportunity to view toucans, trogons, humming birds, parrots and numerous other baby fledglings as they hatch from their eggs to become the newest residents of the Belizean rainforests.

During these nesting months, Chaa Creek will be offering a five-night/six-day Birding Expedition Package.

The guided expedition consists of five nights accommodation at the award winning Lodge at Chaa Creek, airport transfers, all meals and on-site activities, as well as: an early morning birdwatching expedition to Laguna Aguacate, a full day birding excursion to the Mountain Pine Ridge, a full day birding and archaeological tours of the ancient Maya temple cities of Caracol and Tikal, a birding tour of the ancient Maya agricultural centre of El Pilar, and a birding canoe trip on the Macal River.

duPLOOY'S  JUNGLE  LODGE

duPlooy's office/reception

Experience Belize's most amazing and unique eco retreat!  When the duPlooy family arrived in Belize 20 years ago they began turning a cattle ranch and farm into one of the most jungly jungle lodges in Belize, plus a 45-acre Belize Botanic Garden.  At that time they didn't realize what a truly positive environmental impact this could make.

Besides becoming a haven for birds and animals, duPlooy's has become a haven for people seeking time away from the stress of a busy life. At duPlooy's you will love spending time wandering about the property and Belize Botanic Gardens, watching birds and stars, swimming in or floating down the Macal River, relaxing on your porch or on the river's "beach", enjoying a massage in our treetop therapy cabin, or just lying in your hammock. Now that's a vacation!

If you are looking for more action, let their expert guides show you enchanting ancient Maya sites, spectacular caves and waterfalls, horse trails and great hiking. Return in the evening to duPlooy's deck for a cool drink and enjoy some of the freshest and most delicious food in Belize.

duPlooy's offers a variety of rooms to suit everyone! All accommodations have porches (with hammocks), hot water, ceiling fans and screened windows.  Room prices include United breakfast, use of canoes and inner tubes on site, complimentary coffee or tea and morning birding on the deck, plus unlimited entrance to Belize Botanic Gardens and self-guided tour booklet (feel free to take the booklet home, or recycle it at the office.)

At certain times of year Belize gets very hot (we are in the tropics) and all visitors should note that their is no air conditioning at duPlooy's. While this is not a problem for most people, we do ask all those planning to visit to take this into consideration before booking. Remember: all rooms have fans and you can always cool off on beautiful Macal River Beach or enjoy a cool drink at the canopy bar!
